The LÖM studio is located in a industrial space once home to The Lumière North American Company of the late 18th & early 19th Centuries. The French-based photographic product production firm was the largest manufacturer of photographic dry plates & papers in Europe—the parent plant was located in Lyons, France. Approximately half a million gallons of water was pumped from Lake Champlain into a reservoir near the plant for film processing. The Lumière brothers invented & pioneered the manufacturing of groundbreaking photographic equipment including the early motion picture camera & projector called the Cinématographe.
